Patriarch Porfirije: Faith allows us to see beyond the limits of this world

Patriarch Porfirije of Serbia stressed the connection between faith, trust and love during the Divine Liturgy celebrated on September 20, 2026, at the Cathedral Church in Belgrade for the feast of the Nativity of the Theotokos.

In his homily, Patriarch Porfirije reflected on the faith of Saints Joachim and Anna, the parents of the Theotokos, emphasizing that what may appear impossible or incomprehensible to human beings is possible for God.

“What is possible for God is often incomprehensible to us. And what is impossible for people is indeed possible for God, if He wills it, if His love wills it, and if it is for the good of His creation and for our salvation,” the Patriarch said.

Referring to Saints Joachim and Anna, he described faith as a means through which human beings can look beyond the limits of the visible and created world.

“Faith is that organ, space and instrument through which we can see much further than with our physical eyes. Through faith, we see beyond the boundaries of this created world, beyond the limits of creation. Through faith, we reach eternity; we reach God,” he said.
