Patriarch of Serbia urged peace and respect for election results in Serbia

Patriarch Porfirije of Serbia called on citizens to vote according to their conscience and accept the outcome of the parliamentary elections peacefully, in a message issued on Sunday, October 25, 2026.
“Today is an important day for Serbia — today is election day. Of course, I will not tell anyone how to vote,” the Patriarch stated.
He encouraged voters to make their choices freely, taking into account the common good and the interests of the Church.
Patriarch Porfirije appealed for calm and mutual respect, warning against hatred, anger and division during the electoral process.
“Let the peace we have received during the Holy Liturgy remain within us,” he said, urging the faithful not to allow hostility to prevail.
He also called on citizens to accept the results of the democratic process with humility and trust in God, even if the outcome did not correspond to their expectations.
“If we have peace, whatever the outcome, it will be beneficial and blessed. If we have unrest, anger and hatred, whatever the outcome, it will be disastrous for everyone,” he emphasized.
Concluding his message, Patriarch Porfirije encouraged everyone to act without fear, respect one another…
