Patriarch of Serbia meets Slovenian Prime Minister Janez Janša in Ljubljana

Patriarch Porfirije of Serbia met with Slovenian Prime Minister Janez Janša in Ljubljana on September 12, with discussions focusing on the position of the Serbian Orthodox Church in Slovenia and cooperation between state institutions and religious communities.

Bishop Kirilo of Buenos Aires and South-Central America, administrator of the Diocese of Zagreb and Ljubljana, also participated in the meeting.

During what was described as an open and cordial discussion, the two sides addressed the presence of the Serbian Orthodox Church in Slovenia, whose community, according to the Serbian Patriarchate, continues to grow.

Patriarch Porfirije and Prime Minister Janša emphasized that mutual respect, understanding and a culture of dialogue are important prerequisites for preserving peace and social coexistence.

Particular attention was given to strengthening dialogue between state institutions and religious communities. The two sides stressed the potential of religious communities to contribute to a society that respects human dignity, freedom of religion and the right of every community to freely carry out its mission in accordance with the law.
