Patriarch of Serbia: Love for our neighbour springs from the love of God

“Christian memory is illuminated by love. It transforms the sacrifice of our ancestors into gratitude, and their work into an invitation for us, too, to become better people, people of peace. The Lord says: ‘Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called sons of God’ (Matthew 5:9). The peacemakers are those who unite those who are divided, heal wounds, extend a hand to their brother, and through their lives bear witness that love and embrace are stronger than every division.”
These words were emphasized on the evening of 28 July 2026 by Patriarch Porfirije of Serbia during the magnificent academy held in the courtyard of the Cathedral Church of Saint Basil of Ostrog in Nikšić, on the occasion of the celebration of the 150th anniversary of the Battle of Vučji Do.
