Patriarch of Bulgaria begins official visit to Jerusalem today, set to meet King Abdullah II

Patriarch Daniel of Bulgaria begins an official visit to the Patriarchate of Jerusalem on Friday, September 25, 2026, at the invitation of Patriarch Theophilos III of Jerusalem. The visit, approved by the Holy Synod of the Bulgarian Orthodox Church, will continue until September 30 and will also include a visit to Jordan.

The Bulgarian Patriarch will be accompanied by an official ecclesiastical delegation, including Metropolitan John of Varna and Veliki Preslav, Metropolitan Seraphim of Nevrokop, Bishop Gerasimos of Melenikon, Chief Secretary of the Holy Synod, Archdeacon Dr. Deyan Korunoski, and Dr. Alexander Smochevski, patriarchal adviser and interpreter.

During his stay in the Holy Land, Patriarch Daniel is scheduled to hold official meetings and discussions with representatives of the Patriarchate of Jerusalem. He will also visit and venerate some of Christianity’s most important holy sites.

A central event of the visit will take place on Sunday, September 27, when Patriarch Theophilos III and Patriarch Daniel will concelebrate the Divine Liturgy.
