Dacia Cetate parish in Timișoara supported over 100 children at the beginning of the new school yeartranslated

September 7, 2026 · 1 min read

Over 100 children from the Dacia Parish in Timișoara received schoolbags equipped with supplies and other goods needed to start the new school year, as part of a philanthropic action. The initiative is part of the permanent support program of the parish community for children and families in difficulty.

The gifts offered at the beginning of the school year continue a series of actions dedicated to the little ones. At the beginning of the summer vacation, the children received sports equipment, and throughout the year they benefit from other forms of material and educational support.

Father Zaharia Pereș, dean of Timișoara, explained that the number of families in difficulty is increasing and that the Church tries to respond to these needs through constant support: "These parents cannot do it alone and have always turned their hopes to the Church. We send the children to school, but if the poverty at home is great, this burden also falls on them, and the Church always helps them".

For many of the supported families, the help offered by the parish is a necessity. A mother with four children confessed that, a few years ago, her son did not want to go to the first...

It is nice that the parish continues to help steadily, not only at the beginning of the year. The fact that they also gave sports equipment in the summer shows that it is not just an action for the photos. Fr. Zacharias is right, families can no longer get by on their own.

And here in Constanța, we have seen how the number of families asking for help increases from year to year. It's good that the parish in Dacia doesn't just stop at schoolbags, it also gives them sports equipment in the summer and constant support. The mother of four speaking there reminded me of a neighbor of my mother's, exactly the same situation two years ago.

Our parish here in Dallas does backpack drives every August too, but it's good to see they keep helping the same families all year round, not just for the photo op. That sports gear at the start of summer is a smart touch. The quote from Fr. Zaharia about the burden falling on the kids really hits home.

This also happens here in Moscow, especially in residential areas. It’s good that they gave us not only backpacks, but also sports clothes in the summer - at least the children will be able to run around normally. Father Zakharia correctly said about constant help, otherwise one mother with four children really won’t be able to cope.

In several parishes in Krasnodar, we also collect such sets before September 1, but it’s great that this is not a one-time event. Sports equipment for the summer is a good idea, children are outside all summer, and sneakers and balls wear out quickly. Father Zachariah was right when he said about constant help; one mother with four children really can’t handle it.
