Blessed Father Patriarch Daniel turns 75 on Wednesday.

The Press Office of the Romanian Patriarchate announced that the Patriarch of Romania will celebrate his birthday through work, participating in a work session where the organization of the International Meeting of Orthodox Youth (August 31–September 3, 2026) will be discussed, a recurring event initiated by His Beatitude.

At the helm of the Church in complex times It has been rightly written how difficult it was for the previous patriarchs to lead the Church during the period of atheistic communism. But the contemporary period also came with numerous challenges, including the accentuation of the secularization of society, consumerism, the exodus of Romanians to the wider world - an expression not only of the search for a better life, but also of a profound identity crisis.

And this was the period when God appointed the Blessed Father Patriarch Daniel, disciple of St. Cuv, to lead the Romanian Orthodox Church. Cleopa from Sihăstria and eminent student of St. Confessor Dumitru Stăniloae.

Many years ago I read about his meetings with Father Cleopas, how he put him in obedience. It’s interesting that even now, at 75 years old, he doesn’t celebrate, but goes straight to a meeting about a youth meeting in 2026. This is our way, the Orthodox way. Thanks for the article.
