Father Ioan Pițura, former vicar of the Ukrainian Orthodox Vicariate in Romania, passed to the eternaltranslated

Father Ioan Pițura passed to eternal life on Friday. For 31 years, the priest was vicar of the Ukrainian Orthodox Vicariate in Romania.

The cleric was born in Crăciunești, Maramureș county. Between 1963-1968 he attended the courses of the Romanian Orthodox Theological Seminary in Cluj-Napoca, and in 1972 he obtained a degree in Theology at the University Degree Theological Institute in Sibiu.

On July 21, 1968, he married Eleonora-Viorica, and in the same year he was ordained a priest for Văleni Parish in Maramureș County, where he served until 1974. In that year, he was transferred to Ruscova Ukrainian Parish, which he pastored for 47 years, until his retirement in August 2021.

During his service at Ruscova, he coordinated numerous works. He made major repairs to the church, consecrated in 1979, built the parish house in 1981, and between 1992 and 1998 he coordinated the construction of the "Saint John the Baptist" Monastery in Ruscova-Oblaz. In 2015, the construction of the new parish church in Ruscova-Centru began.
