The memory of the significant event that took place this year in the life of the Russian Church is now captured in the church calendar. On October 22, 2026, the Holy Synod decided to include in the general church calendar August 18 (August 5, old style) the day of the discovery of the relics of the Holy Blessed Grand Duke Dmitry Donskoy. In addition, a special service is being created that will be performed on this day.

As you know, the relics of the Holy Blessed Grand Duke Demetrius Donskoy were discovered in connection with restoration work on his tomb. On August 18, in the Archangel Cathedral of the Moscow Kremlin, His Holiness Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Rus' led the solemn discovery of this shrine. Several particles of the relics of the holy prince were placed in arks for further veneration by believers, and the main part of the relics was returned under cover.

On August 20, Russian President Vladimir Putin visited the Archangel Cathedral, where he inspected the burial of the blessed prince. A prayer service was held in the presence of the Head of State.
