“He always sang to God like it was the last time... and he taught us that way”translated

We offer readers of the Monastic Bulletin warm, touching memories of Archimandrite Matthew (Mormyl) - the legendary regent of the Holy Trinity Sergius Lavra, composer, professor of the Moscow Theological Academy. In September, on the anniversary of his death, Father Matthew was lovingly remembered in prayer by the Lavra brethren, many disciples and witnesses of the exceptional power and beauty of the singing of the Lavra choir under his direction. A personality of truly heroic proportions, endowed with unique creative gifts, he was a great worker and a true monk, demanding of himself and selflessly devoted to God and the Church.
