The Omsk archpastor opened the school year at Sunday school with a lesson about the meaning of lifetranslated

Prikhody.ru 09/07/2026. Bishop Siluan of Kalachin and Muromtsevo gave a lesson at a church school in the city of Kalachinsk (Omsk region) on the topic of the meaning of human earthly life. The lesson took place on Sunday, September 6th.

During the archpastor’s story, the pupils learned about the place where the Mother of God appeared to the maiden Catherine during the Great Patriotic War on the territory of the Omsk region, near the village of Tambovka, Sargat district. The Most Pure Virgin saved the girl from mortal danger that day. In memory of this phenomenon, a chapel was erected at this place, and a women’s monastic community was formed in Tambovka itself.

This event, as reported in the public page of the Kalachin diocese on the social network VKontakte, is celebrated annually on September 8 with a solemn service in the chapel and a procession of the cross from the chapel to the Tambov monastery in the Omsk region.

Bishop Silouanos did well to start the school year with something so concrete. The incident with Catherine near Tambovka was unknown to me, interesting to look it up a bit. I would like to know how exactly the Virgin Mary spared her that day.

I didn't know about the appearance to that girl Catherine near Tambovka either. Starting the school year with a real story like that instead of something abstract makes a lot more sense for the kids. Anybody know how exactly the Mother of God saved her that day?
