Melbourne: Holy Mass to start the new church year at Oakleigh Grammartranslated

The Parish - Community of Saints Anargyro in Oakleigh, Melbourne welcomed On Tuesday, September 1, 2026, the Most Reverend Bishop of Melbourne Mr. Kyriakos, who presided over the Orthrus and the Divine Liturgy celebrated for the entire school community of Oakleigh Grammar, uniting in prayer students, teachers, staff and members of the wider school community, on the occasion of beginning of the new ecclesiastical year. The Divine Liturgy was celebrated in an overcast atmosphere, with the hope that the new ecclesiastical year will be blessed and be under the good providence of God. The participation of students and staff at Oakleigh Grammar highlighted the important place the Church holds in the spiritual cultivation and education of the new generation.

During the Divine Liturgy, His Grace Bishop Mr. Kyriakos read the Message of A.Th. His Holiness the Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew for the beginning of the Indictus, with the Patriarchal Message for the day of prayer for the Protection of the Natural Environment.

His Holiness conveyed to the students and staff the paternal blessing of the Most Reverend Archbishop of Australia...

Lovely service at Oakley Grammar. I liked that the students all participated in prayer with Bishop Kyriakos and that he read Patriarch Bartholomew’s message about protecting the environment. In Zahle we do the same thing with our children at the beginning of the church year. God bless everyone.

It is good that the students gather like this with the bishop for the Liturgy from the very first day. I especially liked that Bishop Kyriakos read the patriarchal message about the preservation of nature - just like with us in the church group when we talk to the children about the mountains and fishing. It is good that Bishop Kyriakos read the message of Patriarch Bartholomew about the protection of nature. When we are fishing, we also often talk to the boys about how we need to protect the river and not litter it. Let the Australian guys have this in their heads for the whole year.
