The sacrament of marriage is one of the most beautiful I have seen in our church. I remember when my wife and I were crowned, the priest told us to hold hands the whole time and that stuck with me. How different would it be if we understood this better before marriage?

Yes, holding hands is a simple but true thing. At my son's wedding a few years ago, the priest told us the same thing, and I remember how their hands trembled under the crowns. Maybe if we understood this ahead of time, we would care for each other better even on ordinary days.

Yes, Niko, I also remember this "hold hands tightly" from our own wedding, only then I took it more as an instruction for the ceremony. Now that the years have passed, I see that it also applies to the difficult days. How many years have you been married?

Daniela Florea
Yes, that hand holding isn't just for ceremony. At my daughter's wedding eight years ago, the priest said the exact same thing to us and I remembered him when they had their first big fight. I think it helps us remember that we are connected to each other even when the going gets tough.

Yes, that trembling of hands under crowns is something you don't easily forget. At my cousin's wedding I saw the exact same thing, although they were laughing nervously afterwards. Do you think priests could talk about this more often in sermons, not just at weddings?

Teodora Florea
Yes, you are right, Daniela. At their wedding, the priest told us the same thing about the tied hands, and I thought about it many times when I was baking bread for them and watching them argue over little things. Do you think it would help if young people repeated that gesture at home, at least once a year?

Yes, Teodora, that gesture with the tied hands stayed in my mind from my cousins' wedding. I think that repeated at home, at least once a year, would help to remember that we are not two separate people when those little quarrels arise. Have you ever tried to make it with your husband in the evening, after you bake the bread?
