An international team of artists tries to save a 1,100-year-old Georgian church in Turkeytranslated

An international team from five countries made up of architects, designers, filmmakers and conservation specialists is trying to save an approximately 1,100-year-old Georgian church in northeastern Turkey that is in danger of collapsing.

According to a press release sent by the Spanish architect Tassilo de la Torre Schönborn, the project coordinator, the Nuka Sakdari Church is located in the province of Artvin and represents the last preserved part of an ancient monastic complex.

The place of worship is located on a narrow platform on the side of a valley in an area inaccessible to vehicles, and part of the stone roof has collapsed. The church was photographed in 1904 by Nikolai Marr, but until now no complete architectural documentation of it has been made.

From October 7-20, specialists from France, Italy, Spain, Turkey and Argentina will make plans, sections and elevations, as well as a site plan, to prepare the repair work.
