The historic building of the Dimitrie Petrescu House on Calea Griviței in the Capital will be restored and transformed into a cultural and educational center.

The building was bought in 2025 by the City Hall of Sector 1 and proposed for consolidation.

The City Council is to analyze the documentation necessary to continue the project, the value of the investment being estimated at approximately 90 million lei. According to Mayor George Tuță, the works would last 24 months.

The building is a historical monument and is in seismic risk class 2. The intervention aims both to make the building safe and to preserve its architectural elements.

"The project preserves the architectural character of the building, but makes it safe and gives it a new life," George Tuță said on Monday in a post on his personal Facebook page.

Space for education and culture After the completion of the works, Casa Dimitrie Petrescu would become a space intended for cultural and educational activities. The project foresees the organization of exhibitions, creative workshops, screenings, conferences and programs for children and young people.
