New details about the painting of the National Cathedral's Underground Chapel: It will create the atmosphere of a monastic celltranslated

In the underground Chapel of the National Cathedral, numerous pious Romanian saints will be painted, including hermits who lived in caves. Patriarchal Vicar Bishop Paisie Sinait said on Wednesday that the place of worship "will create the atmosphere of a monastic cell".

His Eminence explained at the Chapel of the National Cathedral, on the occasion of the feast of Saint John Jacob the Jesuit, that the choice of patron saints of the new chapel is not accidental.

"Blessed Father Patriarch Daniel ordered that it be placed under the protection of Saint Pious John Jacob the Josebit and Saint Pious Daniil the Hermit, because both of these saints led a life of penance in caves, and the entire conception of this chapel evokes precisely the atmosphere of prayer, tranquility and ascetic life."

"The iconographic program is inspired by the theme of the cave as a place for man to meet God through prayer and effort. The two patron saints of the chapel lived in the caves: Saint John Jacob in the cave of Saint Ana, in Pustiul Hozevei, and Saint Daniil the Hermit in the caves near Putna and Voronețu", added the hierarch.
