July 14, 2026 · 1 min read

The president of the Greek community of Melbourne and Victoria, Vassilis Papastergiadis, was received today by the President of the Republic, Konstantinos Tassoulas. Mr. Papastergiadis informed the PtD about the multidimensional work of the Greek community, its contribution to the promotion of Greek culture and the cultivation of Greek literacy in Australia, as well as about its future initiatives and goals.

Mr. Tasoulas wished Mr. Papastergiadis every success in the project and in the community's actions, stressing that the strengthening of the ties of diaspora Hellenism with the motherland, as well as the further development of exchanges and cooperation between Greeks abroad and Greece, is a permanent priority for the Greek State.

Good that they meet and talk about their Greek and culture there in Australia. Vasile Papastergiadis seems to be doing serious work with the Melbourne community. Let's see if concrete initiatives come out of this, not just good wishes.

It is good that they meet and talk about language and culture. Vassil Papasteriadis seems to be taking the Melbourne community seriously. Let's hope that there will be concrete results, not just good wishes.

Well said, Zoran. Vasil really tries with language and culture, especially with those courses for children in Melbourne. I hope that from our side, from the church here in Ohrid, we will find a way to help with some books or hymns for them. Do you think there would be interest in that?

Yes, Zoran, language and culture are the most important things we can pass on to children. I often sing Macedonian and Greek troparia with my niece from church, so I could ask if they need sheet music or recordings of chants for their courses. Do you think it would benefit them?
