The Sunday Sermon of the Metropolis of Ierapytni: The Parable of the Sowertranslated

My dear brothers, in today's gospel reading, we heard the gospel passage known to all of us from Luke's gospel, which refers to the parable of the sower. Every year, at this time, the specific gospel passage is read and it coincides with the time when the farmers prepare for sowing the fields, but also with the beginning of catechesis schools and parish meetings.
In the parable, a farmer who went out to sow his field is very expressively described. This farmer symbolizes the Lord, who pours his divine word into the hearts of people. In all people, indiscriminately, the divine word is sown. Our souls are the soil where the word of God is sown. Therefore, while the divine seed of speech is sown in all, in few it bears fruit, because in the meantime obstacles come in which make the souls uncultivated and barren.
Jesus in the parable likened four categories of earth to four categories of listeners. As the farmer sowed, other seeds fell on the road and were trampled and eaten by the birds. Others fell on the stones and when they sprouted, they dried up because there was no moisture. Other seeds…
