September 12: Saint Hieromartyr Autonomos is celebratedtranslated

Today the Church celebrates the rendering (completion) of the feast of the Genesis of the Virgin Mary and honors the memory of the Hieromartyrs Autonomos († 313) and Kournutos of Iconium, the Martyrs Theodoulos, Theodore of Alexandria, Julian, Macedonian, Tatianus and Oceanus, as well as Saint Kournutos of Cyprus. Autonomos was a bishop in Italy and had a rich activity in his diocese. When the persecution of Diocletian began, he left his position and went to the Sorei of Asia Minor. There he settled in the house of a Christian, Cornelius, and continued to teach the Gospel.

Then, he went to Lycaonia and Isauria, to continue the wonderful work. Before starting the journey, he ordained Cornelius a deacon. Then he returned and admired the pastoral work that Cornelius had accomplished, whom he ordained priest and bishop.

The spectacular work that Saint Autonomos had performed, angered the pagans, who stoned him to death while he was officiating.
