Jordan highlights the Baptism of the Lord with a 2030 horizontranslated

Jordan has launched an extensive plan to develop the area around the Baptism Site of Jesus Christ (Al Magtash), at a total cost of about 120 million dollars, in view of the 2,000th anniversary of the Baptism, which will be celebrated in 2030.

The aim of the project is to attract one million pilgrims and visitors annually and transform the area into one of the most important Christian pilgrimage sites worldwide.

The government signed four agreements which include:

The construction of a museum. The creation of an integrated village of pilgrims. Upgrading the infrastructure. The creation of a green ecological route.

The project will be developed on an area of ​​approximately 1,400 dunums adjacent to the historical site of Al Magtash, on the east bank of the Jordan River.

World Heritage Site

The plan aims to highlight the area, while preserving its religious and historical character. The site has been included in the UNESCO World Heritage List since 2015.

That's a solid plan with the museum and pilgrim village. 1.4 million square meters is a huge chunk of land right by the river—hope they keep the actual baptism site peaceful and not too commercialized by 2030.
