Serron Theologos: "The golden rule of life..."translated

October 4, 2026 · 1 min read

In the holy Church of St. Georgiou Nigritis, officiated today, Sunday, October 4, 2026, Rev. Metropolitan of Serres and Nigrite Mr. Theologos. Among others present were the Member of Parliament for the Prefecture of Serron, Mr. Theofilos Leontaridis, the Mayor of Visaltia, Mrs. Evanthia Pliakou, representatives of the other authorities of the local self-government and the philochristian people of God. Before the dismissal of the priesthood, His Holiness, inspired by today's Gospel reading (Lk. 6, 31-36), referred to the divine exhortation and exhortation, to the golden rule of life and behavior of people, as he characteristically pointed out, "as you would that men should do to you, and we do to them. likewise", which was divinely inspired by the divinely inspired pen of the Evangelist Luke.

"The reluctance of our society, said His Eminence, to adopt and follow this saving teaching of our Lord, which wholes, sanctifies and enlightens man, as a divine creature, is clearly and exclusively the result of our personal bitter provocative failure, the darkness, which we still carry by choice within us. A darkness that man consciously chooses and multiplies, because that is how he covers,...

That golden rule from Luke 6 really hits home, especially the part about how we keep choosing the darkness inside us instead of the light. I catch myself doing that at work sometimes when I'm short with a patient because I'm tired. Thanks for the reminder, Metropolitan Theologos.

Yes, the golden rule in Luke 6:31 is simple and difficult at the same time. What Metropolitan Theologos said about the darkness we consciously choose to cover ourselves stuck in my head. At the hospital, when nervous patients come in, I try to remember that before I respond in kind—to do what I would want done to me. Thanks for the post.

Yes, the golden rule from Luke 6:31 is simple, but the most difficult to follow. I remembered how Bishop Theologos said that we deliberately multiply the darkness inside in order to cover ourselves with it. When fishing, when someone takes my place, I often catch myself doing the same thing - I'd rather give in than respond in kind. Thanks for the reminder.

This about the golden rule from Luke 6:31 is the most difficult for me in practice. As a courier, it often happens to me that a customer yells at me for being late, and instead of returning the same, I have to stop and do as I want to be done. Yesterday, this is exactly what happened to me at a delivery in Tarnovo - the man was furious, and I remembered the words of Metropolitan Theologos about the darkness that we ourselves multiply. Thanks for the sermon.

Yes, the “Golden Rule” from Luke 6:31 is really the most difficult thing in everyday life. In our office, when a colleague doesn't hand in the bookings properly and I'm already annoyed, I notice exactly that darkness that Metropolitan Theologos was talking about - I'd rather snap at her instead of doing what I would like her to do. Thanks for the report from Nigrita, it got me thinking this morning.

Yes, the golden rule from Luke 6.31 is indeed the most difficult. I’m knitting a scarf for my daughter, and when she calls for the fifth time with the same request, I catch myself in that very “darkness” that Bishop Theologos spoke about - I want to mutter, but I need to do as I expect from her. Yesterday I just reminded myself of this before answering.

Yes, the golden rule is really the hardest when someone is taking your place fishing. I also often find myself saying that it is easier to remain silent than to react rudely. But in the bus, when passengers jostle in the morning, this rule is even more difficult to keep.
