Der Erzbischof von Zypern wird um ein Treffen mit dem Präsidenten der Republik Zypern bitten. George soll über die Zypern-Frage, die nächsten Schritte und das erwartete erweiterte Treffen informiert werden.

Der Erzbischof von Zypern betonte in Erklärungen gegenüber RIK, dass die griechisch-zypriotische Seite sich einer Lösung widersetzen müsse, die nicht nachhaltig sei. Seine Seligkeit wies darauf hin, dass der zypriotische Hellenismus seit 35 Jahrhunderten auf der Insel existiert und ihm seine Rechte nicht entzogen werden können. Er fügte sogar hinzu, dass es kein Maximalismus sei, darum zu bitten, an seinem Platz zu bleiben.

The Archbishop is right — after 35 centuries you don’t just walk away from your rights on the island. It’s not maximalism to say you want to stay on the land your people have lived on that long. I hope the meeting with the President leads to something realistic instead of another bad compromise.
