I.M. Ierapytnis: The Sermon of Luke Seventh Sunday - The Resurrection of Jairus' Daughtertranslated

Ecumenical Patriarchate HOLY METROPOLIS
HIERAPYTNIS AND SITEIA WRITTEN SUNDAY SERMON FROM LUKE
The resurrection of Jairus' daughter
(November 8, 2026) My dear brothers, in today's Gospel passage that we heard, a great and paradoxical miracle is presented to us. The resurrection of the daughter of the archsynagogue Jairus by Jesus Christ.
This pained father came and fell at the Lord's feet and begged him to go to his house, because he had an only daughter, about twelve years old, who was dying. In the meantime, however, someone came from the head synagogue's house and tells him that your daughter is dead and you are no longer bothering the teacher. Jesus then said to Jairus, do not be afraid but only believe and your daughter will be well.
When they reached the house, the Lord told the gathered crowd not to cry, because the girl is not dead, but sleeping. And taking the girl's hand, he tells her to get up. And really, immediately she got up and her parents were dazzled.
From the tears and mourning for the dead daughter, to the surprise and joy at her resurrection! Christ with one of His commandments performs a miracle and brings the dead back to life...
