Timothy of Thessalio: Saint Paisios turned the gospel word into experiencetranslated

July 13, 2026 · 1 min read

On Sunday, July 12, 2026, the day on which our Church honors the memory of our Holy and God-bearing Father Paisios of Agioreitos, the Most Reverend Metropolitan of Thessaly, Mr. Timotheus, officiated at the procession of Orthros and then celebrated the Divine Liturgy at the Holy Church of Agios Dimitrios Karditsis, where he celebrated the Holy Chapel dedicated to the modern Saint of Orthodoxy. A multitude of devout believers came to the Holy Church, in order to participate in the worship gathering and honor Saint Paisios, asking for his embassies and blessing.

During his sermon, the Metropolitan developed the deeper meaning of the apostolic reading of the day from the Epistle to the Romans of the Apostle Paul, connecting the teaching of the Apostle with the bright example of Saint Paisios, who managed to turn the gospel word into experience and daily action.

He first referred to the sacred texts of the Church, pointing out that both the Old and New Testaments constitute the priceless treasure of our faith. The Old Testament, through the Pentateuch, the Prophets and other holy books, heralds the coming of the Messiah, while the New...

The Carditzi was full of people on Sunday. I remembered how our father used to say that a person should live the Bible, not just read it. God bless Bishop Timothy for linking the Epistle to the Romans with Saint Paisius.

Yes, there were a lot of people in Karditsa that Sunday, as Rania says. I liked that Metropolitan Timothy remembered that Saint Paissios not only read the Gospel, but lived it every day, just as our father advised us. I hope I also get it a little more.

That's right, Rania. I also heard our father say the same thing about how the book should become our lives, not just words we read. I remembered today when I was baking bread and thinking about the message to the Romanians. Indeed, faith is shown in daily actions. May God bless the bishop for this simple preaching.

Yes, Carmen, that detail from Metropolitan Timothy about Saint Paissios who lived the Gospel every day also stuck with me. My husband and I went that morning and saw how people filled the courtyard of the church of Saint Demetrius. I hope we both manage to live it a little more, even if it is in the small things of every day.

Yes, Rubén, that point from Metropolitan Timothy about converting the Gospel into daily life is what impacted me the most. I couldn't go that morning because I had to open the store, but I'm glad that you and your husband saw the church so full. What stood out to you most about the sermon, other than that?

Yes, Rubén, it also stuck in my mind how Metropolitan Timothy linked the words of Saint Paul with the concrete life of Saint Paissios. That morning I opened the store at eight thirty, but in the afternoon I spent some time sewing while thinking about that same thing: living the Gospel in small things. What did your husband say after mass?
