The Transfiguration of the Lord: An Invitation to Personal Renewaltranslated

August 5, 2026 · 1 min read

Written by Sotirios Theologu, Master's Student of Theology A.P.Th.

The feast of the Transfiguration of the Lord is one of the brightest moments of the earthly life of Jesus Christ and one of the most important Despotic feasts of the Orthodox Church. The event of the Transfiguration, as described in the summary Gospels, is not limited to the revelation of Christ's divine glory before His disciples, but it also reveals the destiny of man. The Taborian light is not just a supernatural phenomenon; it is the expression of uncreated divine grace, which calls man to transform his entire existence.

Christ leads the disciples Peter, James and John to a high mountain, away from the crowds and the noise of everyday life. This choice is not accidental. The encounter with God presupposes inner silence, detachment from the multiplicity of the world and a disposition to pray.

On the mountain Christ is transfigured. His face shines like the sun and His clothes become white as light. This is not a change of His nature, but a manifestation of the divine glory that He always possessed as the Son and Word of God. The students…

Thanks for the article. I especially remember how the author emphasized that Christ took Peter, James and John to a high mountain away from the noise of the crowd - it’s just like when I sometimes go fishing on the Don just to be silent and think. Without this inner silence, you probably won’t see anything important. How do you manage to find such a “mountain” in everyday life?

Yes, exactly. It is well said by the author that Christ led Peter, James and John to the high mountain, away from the forest of the crowd. I need that kind of quiet, too, especially after a day with cables and tools at work. Last year on Transfiguration in the "St. Dimitrij" church in Skopje, when we went outside after the liturgy, it seemed to me that the sky was also a little brighter. Thanks for the text.

Yes, just as the author says, Christ took them to a high mountain away from the noise. It always comes to my mind when I go to the garden after work to prune fruit trees - only then there is a little silence and one can pray properly. Last year, on Transfiguration, I felt it strongly while we were serving in our church in Banja Luka.

Yes, the author accurately noticed how Christ led Peter, James and John to a high mountain away from the noise. This happens to me too - after a shift with wires and shields, I get into a boat on the Volga, and only then my head clears up. Last year, on Transfiguration, just after such a fishing trip, I went to the church, and the service was completely different.

Yes, the author wrote well about how Christ specially took Peter, James and John to a high mountain, away from the crowd and noise. It’s like that for me too: after a shift at the clinic, sometimes I just go to the park on Chkalovskaya, sit on a bench and remain silent - only then does my head clear a little. Last year at Transfiguration, just after such a walk, I felt that I needed to look for this silence more often.

Yes, the author makes a good point that Christ took Peter, James and John to the high mountain, away from the noise of the crowd. And I, after a whole day of work at the store, when I go home to my mother and sit on the terrace without a TV, I need just that kind of silence to pray peacefully. Last year at the Transfiguration in our church in Bitola, I felt the same thing.

Yes, the author correctly wrote that Christ took Peter, James and John to a high mountain away from the noise of the crowd. It also happens to me after my shift at the store - I’ll come home, my mother has already put the tea on, and I’ll sit in the corner with my handicrafts and just be silent for about ten minutes, without my phone. Only then does your head become clearer and you can at least think a little about what needs to be changed in life.

Yes, the author well noted how Christ specially took Peter, James and John to a high mountain, away from the noise of the crowd. It’s the same for me on the bus after my shift - I’ll come home, my wife is already heating up dinner, and I’ll go out onto the balcony with a cup of tea and just stand in silence for about ten minutes, without a phone. Only then does your head become clearer and you can pray normally before the Transfiguration.
