With emotion the departure of the Holy and Miraculous Icon of Panagia Soumela from Rethymnotranslated

On the morning of Thursday, October 29, 2026, the Most Reverend Metropolitan of Rethymnon and Avlopotamos, Mr. Prodromos officiated during the Orthros and then performed the High Priestly Divine Liturgy at the Holy Church of the Four Holy Martyrs of Rethymno, during the last day of the Holy Pilgrimage of the Miraculous Icon of Panagia Sumela in our city. Before the dismissal of the Divine Liturgy, a memorial service was held in memory of all the young children of our country, who left their lives prematurely, in the presence of their relatives and hundreds of pilgrims, who flocked on the last day to worship the Most Holy Theotokos. Among them were many students from all levels of education.

After the end of the Divine Liturgy, the Prayer Rule was performed to the Most Holy Theotokos, the Soumeliotissa, and then the Holy Icon left the Holy Church, in an atmosphere of emotion and spiritual joy for this unique blessing to the place.
