Pandemic reception of the Holy Icon of Panagia Soumela and Holy Relics of Saint Demetrius in Rethymnotranslated

For the first time in the history of the city of Rethymno, the Holy and Miraculous Icon of Panagia Soumela - Exciting meeting of the Pontos and Crete On the afternoon of Saturday, October 24, 2026, a pandemonium took place for the Holy and Miraculous Icon of Panagia Soumela and fragments of the Holy Relics of the Holy Great Martyr Demetrius of Myrovlytos, in the Square of the Four Holy Martyrs, in the city of Rethymno.

The Holy Icon was transported, in response to a relevant request of our Reverend Pastor, Metropolitan of Rethymnon and Aulopotamos, Mr. Prodromos, the Most Reverend Metropolitan of Veroia, Naoussa and Campania, Mr. Panteleimon, accompanied by the Professor of Holy Pilgrimage, His Eminence Archimandrite Panteleimon Papalemmanouil, the Archdeacon of the Holy Diocese of Berea Fr. Kosmas Karagiannis, the President of the Association "Panagia Soumela" Mr. Georgios Tanimanidis and members of the Board of Directors of the Holy Foundation.

In front of the Rethymno City Hall, the invited guests were welcomed by the Mayor of Rethymno, Mr. Georgios Marinakis, who addressed a welcoming greeting.
