On this day, the Holy Church commemorates:

*St. Thomas of Mount Malaun. *Martyr Dominica (Kyriaki). *Martyrs Peregrinus and his company. *The martyrs, the righteous priests Evastius, Polycarp, and Evangelius. *Saint Boisil the Irishman. *Saint Ercolgutta, the English Virgin.

✤ Martyr Kyriaki (Dominica) ✤

She is the daughter of pious parents, Dorotheos and Ephesus, from Asia Minor. She was born as a result of barrenness, which the Lord God solved through the frequent prayers of her parents. Devoted to God since childhood. Her heart was not occupied with what children usually occupy. When she grew in grace and stature, she became a beautiful girl in soul and body. Many wanted her as their wife, but she withheld herself from them because, as she said, she had devoted herself to Christ and only wanted to die as a virgin to Him. One of those she disappointed told Emperor Diocletian of her and her parents that she was a Christian. Her parents were taken, tortured, and then exiled to Mytilene, where they died as martyrs after the executioners inflicted more acts of torture on them. As for Dominica, Diocletian sent it to his son-in-law Maximian. When she confessed her faith in Christ to the latter, he ordered her to be thrown to the ground, flogged, and then subjected her to brutal torture, but in vain. She remained steadfast in her faith. The Lord Jesus appeared to her while she was in prison and healed her wounds. He later saved her from fire and predatory animals. This was the reason for the conversion of a number of pagans to…

The part that struck me is how her parents prayed for years to have a child and then raised her completely for God from the start. That kind of steady faithfulness, even when it cost them their lives later, makes you stop and think about what we're really teaching our own kids at home. Thanks for posting the full life of St. Kyriaki.

Η ιστορία της Κυριακής (Δομνίκης) με τους γονείς της Δωρόθεο και Ευσεβία με έκανε να σκεφτώ την κόρη μου όταν ήταν μικρή. Εκείνοι προσεύχονταν χρόνια να την αποκτήσουν και μετά την αφιέρωσαν ολόκληρη στον Θεό, χωρίς δεύτερη σκέψη. Εμείς σήμερα τι πραγματικά δίνουμε στα παιδιά μας να κρατήσουν, πέρα από τα μαθήματα και τα κινητά;
