High-priestly Divine Liturgy and inauguration of the heirloom in the Holy Church of Agios Dimitrios of Thessalonikitranslated

On Sunday, October 18, 2026, the day on which our Holy Church honors the memory of the Holy Apostle and Evangelist Luke, the Metropolitan of Thessaloniki, Mr. Philotheos, officiated and preached the divine word at the Pilgrimage Church of Agios Dimitrios - Poliuchos. Clergy of the Holy Metropolis of Thessaloniki, as well as other Holy Metropolises, collaborated with Metropolitan Mr. Philotheo.

The Divine Liturgy was attended by a large number of believers, among whom were also pilgrims from Orthodox countries in the Balkans.

Before the dismissal of the Divine Liturgy, according to the established standard of the Holy Church, a special prayer was chanted at the exit of the altar containing the holy remains of the holy and glorious great martyr Demetrius of Myrovlytos, which is kept throughout the year in the Holy Ark.

This was followed by the procession of the holy altar inside the Church, marking, according to tradition, the beginning of the so-called "Great Week of Saint Demetrius", during which the city of Thessaloniki prepares to celebrate the memory of its patron and patron.
