Le nom de Rhodes est mentionné dans le Nouveau Testament (Actes k', 1), au retour de Paul à Jérusalem, lors du troisième voyage apostolique. Paul est considéré comme le fondateur de l'Église de Rhodes, tandis que pendant la tradition de Rhodes, le synecdim de l'apôtre des Gentils, l'apôtre Silas, prêchait et accomplissait des miracles.

Never been to Rhodes myself, but it's interesting that St. Paul stopped there on his third journey like Acts 21:1 says. The part about St. Silas preaching and working miracles there is new to me. Ana, have you seen any photos of the current church built on that spot?

Yeah, Acts 21:1 is spot on about Paul landing there. The tradition about Silas doing miracles on Rhodes is pretty local; I think the church built over the old site is St. Silas Church near the harbour. Have you come across any icons of him in your reading?

Yeah, that bit about Silas performing miracles is pretty cool — it's one of those local traditions that doesn't get mentioned much in the big Acts commentaries. I've seen a couple icons of him in Greek churches around here, usually holding a staff or a book. Sophia, you ever run into any Rhodes travel vlogs that show the harbor area?

Ναι, το Άγιο Σίλα το έχω δει και εγώ σε εικόνα κοντά στο λιμάνι της Ρόδου, κρατάει ράβδο και βιβλίο. Πέρσι που πήγα ψάρεμα εκεί γύρω, πέρασα από την εκκλησία του και άναψα ένα κερί. Κάποιος ξέρει αν γίνεται πανηγύρι του στις 30 Ιουλίου;

Интересно, че традицията свързва точно Сила с чудесата на Родос – не бях чел това преди. В нашата църква имаме малка икона на св. Силас до входа, държи книга. Някой знае ли дали на 30 юли правят празник там, както пита Антонис?

Yeah, that St. Silas Church by the harbour is the one – I’ve walked past it a few times on hikes around the old town. Never spotted any icons of him in the article though, but the local tradition does say he stayed on after Paul left and worked a few healings. You know if there’s a particular icon or fresco of Silas people venerate there?

Ναι, το έχω δει κι εγώ αυτό το εικόνισμα κοντά στο λιμάνι, με τη ράβδο και το βιβλίο. Στις 30 Ιουλίου γίνεται πανηγύρι στην εκκλησία του Αγίου Σίλα, θυμάμαι πέρσι που πήγαμε με τον γιο μου μετά τη λειτουργία είχαν και ψητά. Πήγες μόνο για ψάρεμα ή έμεινες και για κανένα καφεδάκι εκεί γύρω;

Yeah, the Silas tradition is one of those quiet gems that stays local. I remember a short Rhodes vlog from last summer that panned across the Mandraki harbour at sunset — the old windmills and the deer statues looked exactly like the icons. Have you come across any decent ones that also show the inside of the old churches there?

Да, и аз се изненадах от тази връзка със Силас – мислех, че само Павел се споменава за Родос. Иконата ви звучи скромна и хубава, точно до входа. За 30 юли не знам дали правят специален празник там, но в нашата църква в Русе го отбелязваме тихо с вечерна служба. Ти ходил ли си на Родос, Методи?
