Patriarch Daniel to American Diplomats: The Church of Romania prays for a just solution in Ukrainetranslated

The complex and tense geopolitical and religious situation in various regions of the world, including the armed conflict in Romania's neighborhood, was the focus of the discussion held today, Thursday, September 17, 2026, at the Patriarchal Residence in Bucharest by the Patriarch of Romania, Mr. Daniel and the Special Purpose Ambassador for International Religious Freedom at the United States Department of State and Deputy Secretary of the Office for Democracy, Human Rights and Labor, Mr. Riley Burns.  The meeting was also attended by Mr. Darryl Nirenberg, Ambassador of the United States of America in Bucharest, as well as representatives of the Department of State and the US Embassy in Romania.

After the initial welcome the Primate of the Church of Romania briefed the American diplomats on religious freedom in the country he said that in Romania, religious freedom is guaranteed by Article 29 of the Constitution, which protects the freedom of conscience and belief for all citizens.
