"Horokrites": Anniversary event for the 160th anniversary of the Holocaust of the Holy Monastery of Arkaditranslated

The Holy Metropolis of Rethymno and Avlopotamos, in co-organization with the Municipality of Rethymno and the Region of Crete, invites the public to the anniversary event presented by the "Horokrites" Folklore Society, on the occasion of the completion of 160 years since the historical Holocaust of the Holy Monastery of Arkadiou. The event, entitled "From sacrifice to memory and from memory to responsibility", will take place tonight, Wednesday 4 November 2026, at 20:30, in the "Pantelis Prevelakis" hall (Rethymnon Conservatory).

The keynote speaker of the event will be the Deputy Mayor for Greenery, Volunteerism and Stray Animals of the Municipality of Rethymno, Mr. George Papadosifos, while the program will be framed by the Rizitiki, Theatrical and Dance Group of the Folklore Club "Horokrites", through traditional songs, theatrical acts and dances.

The texts and theatrical events are edited by Eva Ladia and Maria Tsaglioti, while the musical setting is undertaken by Nikos Lagoudakis and his collaborators.

This anniversary event is an opportunity to look back and pay tribute to the heroes of Arcadius, highlighting the timeless importance of their sacrifice and the duty to preserve historical memory.
