The commemoration of the Holy Hieromartyr Dionysios the Areopagite, patron of the legal world of our country, was held with due solemnity again this year. A Divine Liturgy was celebrated in the Metropolitan Church of Agios Nikolaos Volos, officiated by Rev. Metropolitan of Dimitriados, Mr. Ignatiou, in the presence of the Member of Parliament of Magnesia, Ms. Zetta Makris, the President of the Regional Council, Mr. Chrysas Tsaganos, the President of the Volos Bar Association, Mr. Ertzis Chrysochou, representatives of the Military, Police and Fire Authorities and many members of the Association.

Rev. Pastor Mr. Ignatios emphasized that "it is a unique privilege to save the Apostle Paul's visit to Athens, in the Book of the Acts of the Apostles, and his famous speech to the Athenians of the time. It is interesting that this speech of the Apostle Paul on the Areopagus was preserved in the original Greek. For lawyers to have a patron like St. Dionysius is truly a special honor. In our parish, we also pray for everyone who works in the courts and the prosecutor's office.

The part about the Apostle Paul's speech being preserved in the original Greek really stood out to me too. It's a solid reminder that the faith isn't some vague idea but tied to real history and real places like the Areopagus. Nice to see the lawyers honoring St. Dionysius with the Liturgy and all those officials there.

I agree, that bit about the original Greek in Acts really grounds it all. The Areopagus isn't just a footnote; it's where Paul stood and spoke to people who valued reason and law, which makes St. Dionysius a fitting patron for lawyers even today. Did you ever visit the site in Athens?

Yeah, that line about the original Greek really stuck with me too. Makes the whole scene feel less like ancient history and more like something that still echoes in a courtroom. Never made it to the Areopagus myself, but I’d love to hear what it was like when you stood there.
