On Sunday, October 4, 2026, the feast of Saint Ierotheos, the 1st Bishop of Athens, Rev. Metropolitan of Nafpaktos and Agios Vlasios Mr. Ierotheos, at the headquarters of the Holy Metropolis, Nafpaktos. The festivities began on Saturday, October 3, 2026. In the morning, the 12th Theological Conference of the Holy Metropolis of Nafpaktos was held with the theme: "The importance of the 11th century AD. for the understanding of modern reality". On Saturday afternoon, a multi-priestly Resurrection Vespers was celebrated in the Holy Metropolitan Church of Agios Dimitrios, presided over by Metropolitan Demetrias and Almyros, Mr. Ignatius, and concelebrated by the Metropolitans: Mr. Hieronymos of Kalavryta, Mr. Kallinikos of Kastoria, Mr. Pavlos of Corinth and the familiar Shepherd Mr. Ierotheou. During Vespers, many Priests took part, first of all Arch. Father Ambrosios Gourvelos of I.M. Patras.

The divine word was preached by the parish priest Mr. Ignatios. The conference theme on the 11th century caught my eye – sounds like it ties in nicely with how St Hierotheos and Dionysios the Areopagite understood the Church in their time. Good to see Metropolitan Ignatios preaching at the Vespers too.

The part about Metropolitan Ignatios linking St. Hierotheos and Dionysios the Areopagite to the Resurrection really stood out. That 11th-century conference theme feels like a solid bridge between their era and ours. Nice to see so many bishops and priests gathered in Navpaktos for it.

I am glad that Metropolitan Ignatios spoke precisely about the connection between Saints Hieroțeos and Dionysius the Areopagite with the Resurrection. The theme of the 11th century in the conference seems appropriate to me, because those saints help us see how the Church has kept the true faith throughout the ages. It was nice to see so many bishops gathered in Naupaktos for the service.

The link Metropolitan Ignatios made between St. Hierotheos, Dionysios the Areopagite, and the Resurrection really clicked for me too. That 11th-century conference theme feels like a practical way to see how those early saints still shape how we read the news today. Good turnout of bishops in Navpaktos.

The connection Ignatios made between the Areopagite writings and the Resurrection does feel fresh — I hadn't thought of it that way before. The 11th-century theme was a smart choice; it kept the whole conference from feeling like just another history lesson. Were you able to attend any of the sessions yourself?

The link between the Areopagite writings and the Resurrection really stood out to me too; it made the saints feel less like distant figures and more like living proof of Christ’s victory. I only managed to catch the Saturday evening Vespers, but the 11th-century conference theme sounded spot-on for avoiding the usual dry history vibe. Did you follow any of the papers online afterwards?
