Cyprus: Reconfirmation of intensification of efforts to ascertain the fate and the last missing persontranslated

The intensification of efforts to ascertain the fate of the last missing person, with initiatives at the local, European and international level, was reaffirmed by the President of the Republic of Cyprus, Nikos Christodoulidis, who met yesterday, Tuesday 21 July 2026, with the presidents of the organizations of missing persons in Cyprus and Greece. The Commissioner of the Presidency, Marios Hartsiotis, who was present at the meeting, said that opinions were exchanged and suggestions were submitted with the aim of ascertaining the fate of the last missing person.

The President of the Panhellenic Committee, Maria Kalbourtzi, spoke of a very constructive meeting, which creates hope and optimism that substantial steps can be taken in the chronic issue of the missing.

The President of the Pan-Cypriot Organization of Relatives of Undeclared Prisoners and Missing Persons, Nikos Sergidis, expressed his assessment that the measures proposed by the government this time may yield substantial results, noting that the President of the Republic has already announced that he will raise the issue during his meeting with Antonio Guterres.
