Anniversary of the manning of I.M. Holy Forerunner Mesa Potamostranslated

On Sunday August 9, the Most Reverend Bishop Amathoustos Mr. Nikolaos officiated at the I.M. To the Honorable Forerunner of Mesa Potamos, on the occasion of the 23-year anniversary of the establishment of the Monastery (2003), by the brotherhood of the Holy Monastery of Machira. Theophilastos was Abbot of the Monastery from 2003 until his election to the position of Bishop Amathoustos in 2007.

The Monastery is located on the southern slope of Troodos. Although it is mentioned that the Monastery dates back to the year 1468, it is assumed that it was founded in the 11th or 12th century, with a possible extension in the 14th century. During the period of the Turkish occupation, the monastery declined. During the second half of the 18th century the Metropolitan of Kiti Makarios I takes care of its renovation.

In 1878 the catholicon was destroyed by fire. In 1912, on the initiative of the Metropolitan of Kiti Meletiou Metaxakis, the monastery reopened and reopened until 1916, when it was dissolved again. It was reconstituted at the beginning of 1998 and monks settled there.
