Evening Sermon of the Metropolitan of Etoloakarnania in Agriniotranslated

On Sunday, November 1, 2026, the Vespers Sermon of the Most Reverend Metropolitan of Aetolia and Acarnania, Mr. Damaskinos, was held in the Holy Metropolitan Church of Zoodochos Pigi Agrini, in the presence of Clergy and faithful of the city.

Continuing the interpretive approach of the Gospel according to Mark, which is the general theme of this year's evening gatherings, His Holiness developed the theme "The Baptism of Jesus", based on verses 9-13 of the first chapter, referring to the Baptism of the Lord in the Jordan River and His temptations in the desert.

He first presented the event of the Baptism of Christ by Saint John the Forerunner, pointing out that the sinless Lord humbly comes to the Jordan, not because he needs purification or repentance, but to fulfill the will of God and to manifest His humility and obedience.

Special reference was made to the manifestation of the Holy Trinity, as when Christ came out of the waters of the Jordan the heavens opened, the Holy Spirit descended "like a dove" and the voice of God the Father was heard: "You are my beloved Son, in you I am well pleased" (Mark 1,11).
