Vatican: Pope Leo was admitted to the hospitaltranslated

Pope Leo XIV was to be admitted to Rome's Gemelli Hospital on Tuesday to undergo surgery to remove a small nodule from one of his lungs. This is the first major health problem he has faced during his 17-month tenure as head of the Roman Catholic Church. According to the Vatican press office, the pontiff was expected to leave the Vatican for the hospital late in the morning. It was not specified, however, exactly when the operation would take place.
The 71-year-old pope had announced on Sunday that a preventive medical check-up found a small nodule in his lung, which he said had been diagnosed at an early stage.
According to ertnews.gr, the Vatican estimates that the recovery period will last approximately one week. All public appearances by the pope have been canceled until October 20.
