The Dormition of the Blessed Virgin Mary was celebrated in the Holy Archdiocese of Crete with particular splendor and in a climate of deep darkness, with the presence of the Most Reverend Archbishop of Crete Mr. Eugenios in the worship events of the Holy Monastery of Paliani and the celebratory Holy Church of Panagia Kamariani in Nea Alikarnassos. On the afternoon of Friday, August 14, 2026, the eve of the great Feast of the Mother of God, His Eminence officiated at the Great Solemn Vespers at the historic Holy Monastery of Palianis, in the Venerato of Heraklion.

A multitude of believers came to the Monastery, in order to honor the Most Holy Theotokos, to venerate the miraculous icon of Panagia Paliani and to participate in the solemn procession.

In his speech, His Eminence referred to the special place that the Virgin Mary holds in the life and faith of the Cretan people, as well as the timeless relationship of Crete with Her eternal person.
