Volos: Protopsaltis Ioannis Schoris has fallen asleeptranslated

It is with profound sadness that the Holy Diocese of Dimitrias announces to the Lord the excommunication of the great Cantor of the Holy Church of the Transfiguration of Sotiros Volos and Professor of Byzantine Music Ioannou Schoris. The late Protopsaltis fell asleep today in Volos, at the age of 77. Ioannis Schoris was born in Vamvakou, Farsalon, in 1949. He was a graduate of the Ecclesiastical Training School of Volos and a final student of the Higher Ecclesiastical School of Thessaloniki. He was the holder of a Byzantine Music Degree from the Hellenic Conservatory of Volos (1972) and a Byzantine Music Diploma from the Alimos Conservatory (1983). He was a student of: Fr. Konstantinos Theocharopoulos (1959-1968), Emmanuel Hatzimarkou (1968-1982), Athanasiou Karamanis (1971) and Othonos Fokitsa (1974-1990).
From 1980 to today he was a Professor at the School of Byzantine Music of the Holy Metropolis of Dimitrias, while from 1989 to 1999 he was a professor at the Private School of Farsala. He was Director of the Schools of Byzantine Music of the Holy Metropolises of Thessaliotido & Fanariofersala and Corfu, Paxos & Diapontian Islands.
He served as Cantor of the Holy Churches: Agioi Apostolos of Drama (1971-1972), Agios Spyridonos N. Ionia (1973-1974)...
