Three-Day Retreat for Women of the Metropolis of Neapolis in Makrinitsatranslated

July 7, 2026 · 1 min read

With the blessing of Most Reverend Metropolitan Barnabas of Neapolis and Stavroupolis, and with the joyful participation of 100 women and 20 leaders who served throughout the retreat, the activities of the Metropolis’ retreats commenced at the Blessed Refuge “Axiōn Esti” in Makrinitsa, Sidirokastro. From Friday, June 26, through Sunday, June 28, the women and leaders enjoyed three days of rest, Christian joy, communion with God and one another amidst the serene beauty of the verdant landscape.

The official guest of this year’s retreat was Mr. George Barlas, Theologian, Philologist, and Radio Producer for Piraeus Church Radio since its inception.

The two topics addressed to the women were “Saint Porphyrios and Joy” and “Relationships.” Both presentations, as well as the vibrant and creative dialogue held on Sunday morning following the outdoor Divine Liturgy, fostered deep spiritual reflection.

The women departed on Sunday afternoon, renewing their commitment to gather again next summer.

That was a nice read. That St. I was most interested in Porfýrios and the theme of joy, because in such a green silence near Makrynitsa, it is really easier to enjoy the little things. How many days did the outdoor liturgy last on Sunday?

It is interesting that Mr. Georgios Barlas spoke about St. Porphyry and joy. In our country, too, after such outings in nature, women say that even ordinary coffee tastes different in the morning. And how long did the Sunday liturgy in the open air last?

Saint Porphyry and joy is something that I always remember. Here in Poltava region, after such trips, women also say that even mint tea is drunk differently in the garden. And how long did the Sunday liturgy in the open air last?

And we in the church choir always remember Saint Porphyry when we talk about true joy. Nice that they had the service outside under the trees, after so much greenery. How long did that Sunday service last, about an hour and a half?
