Argyrokastrou Nathanael: Saint Marina demonstrated unwavering faith in Christtranslated

July 17, 2026 · 1 min read

On the evening of Thursday, July 16, 2026, the eve of the feast of Saint Martyr Marinis, the Most Reverend Metropolitan of Argyrokastro Mr. Nathanael officiated at the Solemn Vespers, which was celebrated in the Holy Church of Saint Marinis, in the city of Heimarra. At the end of Vespers, His Holiness addressed paternal speeches to the congregation, referring to the life and martyrdom of Saint Martyr Marini.

He emphasized that the Saint, despite her young age, demonstrated unwavering faith in Christ, bravery in the face of torture and absolute devotion to the will of God.

He also emphasized that her example is a timeless invitation to all believers to remain firm in the faith, face life's trials with patience and fight with courage for the truth of the Gospel.

An old but always relevant example. In Himar, on the evening of July 16, Metropolitan Nathanael spoke well of her youth and firm faith in the face of suffering. I liked that he emphasized patience in everyday trials, which is something we all need.

Saint Nathanael well said that the young Marina remained steadfast even under torment. I remembered what he said about patience in everyday trials - exactly what we lack, those of us with jobs, families and bills. Thanks for the article.

Yeah, I stopped at that part too with everyday patience. I, at 70 years old, still try not to grumble when my knees hurt in the garden or when the electricity bill comes. St. Marina shows us that there should not only be great torments, but also small ones. Thank you too, Marius.

Yes, Marius, I also retained exactly this part with the patience of small trials. At the store, when I stand all day and nervous customers come, I remember Saint Mary and try not to get angry. What job do you do, what about bills and family?

Saint Marina had courage even at 15 years old, and we complain about our knees and bills. You are right, this patience every day is the hardest. What job do you work for, Marius, why do you have so many bills on your head?

Yes, Larisa, exactly the day-to-day patience part hit me too. Me, when my feet hurt after standing for a long time at the lectern or when I clean the sand from the terrace after a storm, I try not to grumble. Saint Marina reminds us that even small annoyances can be disguised as prayer. Thanks for writing this.

Yes, Elena, I've felt that too when I'm fishing, when the rain drenches me and yet I sit on the shore for hours. Instead of grunting, I try to say a "God help" for every drop. Thank you for reminding me about the daily patience, it's the hardest.
