Ministry of Defense: Coordination of actions for the protection and promotion of Zappeion and the wider historical areatranslated

A broad meeting was held at the Ministry of Culture, under the Minister of Culture Lina Mendoni, with the participation of the President of the Olympia and Zappeion Bequest Committee Lefteris Iovanidis, the General Secretary of Culture of Olympia Vikatos, collaborators of the Zappeion Megaros and officials of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. As stated in the announcement of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the subject of the meeting was the coordination of the actions of the Ministry of Culture and the Olympia and Zappeion Heritage Committee for the protection and promotion of the Zappeion Palace and its surroundings, based on the current institutional framework and, in particular, the provisions of the archaeological legislation.

The Zappeio Megaro, inextricably linked to the history of modern Athens and the revival of the Olympic idea, is one of the most emblematic neoclassical buildings of the capital. Its construction is linked to the vision and bequest of the national benefactor Evangelis Zappa for the revival of Olympia. Together with the gardens and its wider surrounding area, it constitutes a historical ensemble of particular architectural, cultural and environmental value.

Χαίρομαι που επιτέλους κάθισαν να σύτονιση και και για το Ζάππειο και τους του γίδηνος. The building is truly one of the most beautiful neoclassical buildings in Athens and is directly connected to Σάππα and the idea of the Olympians. Let's hope that this time they will move on to specific projects, not just meetings.

Επιτέλους, it's good that η Μενδώνη called Ιοναίδη και ίλησαν specifically for the archaeological legislation, because the gardens have begun to φθείρονται very much. Ζάππειο is one of the few places in Athens that really reminds of Ζάππα and τα Ολύμπια, let's just say it this time.

It’s good that they’ve finally taken on Zappeio for real, and not just with words. My kitchen is small, but I always say that if the foundation and laws are not followed, then both the gardens and the building itself will quickly fall into disrepair, like an old pie without support. It's good that Mendoni and Giovanidi finally got down to business legally and didn't just talk. Zappeio with these gardens is a special place, I was there in Athens, I wouldn’t want everything to fall into disrepair, like the old fence in our dacha. I hope that now the restoration will progress to painstaking work, and will not stop at papers.
