25 years since the terrorist attack on the Twin Towers - Archbishop Elpidophoros: Duty to keep the memory alivetranslated

Today marks twenty-five years since the terrorist attack on New York's Twin Towers, when two Boeing passenger jets crashed into the buildings that housed the World Trade Center. A short time later, another Boeing 757 with 64 passengers crashed into the west wing of the US Pentagon, while a fourth aircraft, headed for the White House, was shot down in Pennsylvania.

The planes were hijacked by 19 hijackers, with a tragic toll of 2,977 people losing their lives.

Unveiling of new Port Authority monument On the occasion of this "black" anniversary, a week of commemorative events began in the USA. In this context, the Most Reverend Archbishop of America Mr. Elpidophoros attended, together with other representatives of the Authorities, Port Authority police officers and local community officials, at the unveiling of the new Port Authority monument, in Lower Manhattan. The monument is located next to the Holy Church of Agios Nikolaos, in the World Trade Center and overlooks the 9/11 Memorial, at Ground Zero.
