The Ecumenical Patriarch stands by the Patriarch of Jerusalem after the bloody attack in Jordantranslated

October 23, 2026 · 1 min read

The deepest sorrow of the Ecumenical Patriarchate and of itself personally for the victims of the armed attack on the Greek Orthodox Holy Church of Agios Georgios in Hmoud, Karak Governorate, Jordan, was expressed by A.Th. Panagiotis the Ecumenical Patriarch k.c. Bartholomew in a telephone conversation he had with His Beatitude Patriarch of Jerusalem, Mr. Theophilos, on Friday evening. The Ecumenical Patriarch, who is visiting Rome, categorically condemned the attack on the faithful who were in the Greek Orthodox Church. He also pointed out that every terrorist act is in fact directed against the peaceful coexistence of peoples, religions and cultures, which is of vital importance especially for the long-suffering Middle East.

His Holiness wished the All-Merciful God to rest the souls of the innocent victims of the attack and asked the Patriarch of Jerusalem to convey his heartfelt condolences and support to their families. He also wished for a speedy recovery of the health of the injured.
