Tribute to the victims of the bombing of the Athalassa Hospital during the Turkish invasiontranslated

The memory of the 31 patients and the two nurses who lost their lives during the bombing of the Athalassa Hospital by the Turkish air force, on July 20, 1974, was commemorated on Wednesday, August 5, by representatives of the State, the OKYPY, guilds and relatives of the fallen, in a memorial service held at the memorial of the victims, near the General Nicosia Hospital. Among the 31 patients killed during the bombing of Wards 1 and 2 of the hospital were three Turkish Cypriots. In 2023, a monument with the names of all the fallen was erected in the area where the chambers were then housed.

The memorial service was attended by, among others, the President of the Parliamentary Health Committee Savia Orfanidou, the Prefect of Nicosia Andreas Chatzipakkos, the General Financial Director of the State Health Services Organization Robertos Karahannas, a representative of the Ministry of Health, representatives of trade unions, mental health services and relatives of the fallen.

In her speech, Savia Orfanidou said that she attended the memorial service for the first time in her capacity as President of the Parliamentary Health Committee, to pay tribute to the Greek Cypriots and Turkish Cypriots...
