The whole of Attica shone yesterday evening, Thursday 16-7-26, from the spiritual glow and the moral light of the calliparthen martyr Agia Marina, in the reverent prayer held in her memory, in the church of the same name, of Agia Marina Thisiou. There, high up on the beautiful Hill of the Nymphs, the Athenian people, from all the districts of Athens, gave a stormy present to honor the morally excellent martyr of our Orthodoxy. The calliparthen Marina, who gave up all the honors, privileges and riches of the Prefect of Antioch Olymbrios, in order to break her faith in our Christ and deliver her honest head to the knife of the Roman commander. When the prefect, in despair, saw that the venerable Marina strongly rejected all the honors and privileges he offered her to renounce her orthodox morals, then in his last effort, he proposed to make her his wife too! And the venerable Marina, with unwavering faith in the divine power, answered him: "It is enough, Christ is the bridegroom of my heart"! and then, enraged, the Roman commander ordered her hideous beheading, which, however, gave her the sacred cotin of morality...
