Vespers of the Nativity of the Virgin in Corfutranslated

On the evening of Monday, September 7, 2026, the Most Reverend Metropolitan of Corfu, Paxos and the Diapontian Islands, Mr. Nektarios, went to Vato Mesi Corfu, in order to officiate at Vespers on the feast of the Birthday of the Blessed Virgin Mary in the celebrating parish Church. Among the fathers who took part in the vespers was the vicar of the parish, Father Nikolaos Chytiris, fathers from neighboring areas as well as the Deacons of His Eminence. His Eminence during his speech, taking the occasion of the feast's absolute, said, "Your birth, Theotokos, brought joy to the whole world", because it foreshadows the spiritual freedom of man. He then pointed out that before the birth of the Virgin, the whole world lived in a spiritual curse, in an evil demon and in a spiritual darkness.

People felt despair in their lives because man had broken his fellowship with God from the moment when the first creatures, influenced by the devil, believed that they could become gods without God. Since then man's communion with his Creator has been broken.
