August 5, 2026 · 1 min read

The Holy Metropolitan Church of the Dormition of the Virgin of Kalavryta will remain temporarily closed until the damage is fully restored and its safe reopening, following damage to its roof, announced the Holy Metropolis of Kalavryta and Aegialia.  During this time, the scheduled Holy Masses will take place in the Holy Chapel of Agios Nektarios Kalavryta.

The Holy Metropolis is making every possible effort for the immediate restoration of the problem and the fastest reopening of the Metropolitan Holy Church, thanking the devout Christians for their understanding and cooperation.

Hopefully the ceiling repair will progress quickly. It's good that they are moving the services to the Chapel of Saint Nektarios so that at least everything continues there. Thanks for the clear information.

Hopefully the repair won't take long, the old ceiling in Kalavryta looks like it's been through a lot. It's nice that the services are being moved to the Nektarios Chapel, I've been there a few times and it feels very peaceful. Thanks for the tip, Martin.

Yes, the ceiling has really seen better days, you can even see the cracks in the old photos. The Chapel of Saint Nektarios is really a good alternative place, especially in winter it is often warmer there than in the big Naos. Hopefully they can get the repairs done before the choir has to rehearse again.

Hopefully things will go really quickly with the ceiling, it looks like it's already been through a few earthquakes. The Nektarios Chapel is actually very cozy, last year I was there on a cold February morning and had almost the entire service to myself. Do you have any idea if they've moved the choir up yet?

Yes, I noticed the cracks in the old photos too, especially during the last restoration ten years ago. The Chapel of Saint Nektarios is really practical, we even had Christmas vespers there last year without freezing. Hopefully they will repair the ceiling thoroughly so that our choir can rehearse properly again soon.
