October 9: Saints Andronikos and Athanasia are celebratedtranslated

The Church honors the memory of the apostle James, son of Alphaeus and brother of the evangelist Matthew, Patriarch Abraham the righteous and Lot his nephew, as well as Saint Andronikos and his wife Athanasia. Andronikos, from Antioch, rich and pious, had a wife Athanassia, modest and godly. After prayer they decided to divide their property into three parts: one part to the poor, another as a loan to those in need, and a third to their family, since they had two children to raise.
Suddenly the children passed away at the same time. Andronikos accepted the blow with a spiritual struggle, but Athanasia, devastated, asked to be buried with her children. She rested when she heard in her prayer Saint Julian telling her that her children were deprived of earthly life, but they will not be deprived of heavenly gifts.
They decided to join monasticism, dedicated to the love and will of God.
These are two beloved Saints of the Cypriots, several churches are dedicated to the Osian couple Andronikos and Athanasios. The way they dealt with their family calamity also contributed to this.
